Strong Arm Tactics
The humerus is the thick arm bone that runs dependably from the elbow to the shoulder. It takes a strange combination of forces for it to break in half, but when it does, the upper arm buckles, issuing first a wooden groan and then a loud crack that sounds like a firm step through a dry cellar stair. At least, that's what mine did one recent summer night in Queens. Pretty much every Thursday night for nine years the best local pro and amateur arm wrestlers have come to Jason Vale's serious basement group in Whitestone—a kind of arm-benders' salon. When you meet him, the 30-year-old Vale is surprisingly boyish, even normal-looking.

Jason Vale Imprisoned for Alternative Cancer Cure
According to an article in Medical News Today, Jason Vale was sentenced on June 18, 2004 to 63 months in prison and 3 years of supervised release by a United States District Court in the Eastern District of New York. Vale ran afoul of the US Food and Drug Administration which is acting to protect, as the word goes, the victims of cancer, preventing any idea from taking hold that there may be a cure for cancer outside of the slash-poison-and-burn approach of conventional medicine.

Vale of Silence
In the federal courthouse at Brooklyn, a Queens native, cancer survivor, and New York City arm-wrestling champion, Jason Vale, is appearing this week to face off against the Food and Drug Administration over his promotion and sale of apricot seeds, so-called "vitamin B-17," and a substance called laetrile as treatments for cancer. Mr. Vale, owner of the online retailer Christian Brothers Contracting Corp., says that a diet of apricot seeds helped him beat a rare form of cancer, but the science behind the products Mr. Vale is pushing falls somewhere between sketchy and non-existent.

The FDA’s Stealth War Against The Consumer
Jason Vale looking at 30 years for apricot seeds

If a person sets up a booth to sell apricot seeds because they taste good, he can, provided he has the proper vendor permits, sell them to anyone he pleases all day long. But, if he claims apricot seeds, which contain the known anti-cancer compound amygdalin, can help to prevent or reverse cancer, he can go to prison. In the case of Jason Vale of New York, you can also go to prison if you sell the seeds to people who want them and someone else tells them they are good for your health.

FDA vs. Jason - and vitamin B17
New York - on Monday 14 July, the FDA instigated action against former arm-wrestling champion Jason Vale for selling apricot seeds and telling his story of how he got cured of cancer will have its day in court. (See Call for help - FDA vs Jason on 14 July)

Jason was apparently set up by the FDA, whose primary function might seem to be the protection of pharmaceutical interests from competition by effective, food-based natural alternatives to drug treatment, rather than the protection of Joe Doe Public from being taken advantage of.

Curative effect of the apricot seed
In the minds of the naturopaths, the debate over Laetrile and the attempt of the federal government to label amygdalin as a regulated drug instead of a vitamin supplement, is one of money and the issue of whether or not the medical community really wants to find a cure for cancer.

In the view of some alternative health practitioners the medical community wants to ban the use of organic amygdalin (Vitamin B-17)...

The criminal case
On January 27, 2000 when US, District Court Judge Deborah Batts refused to vacate the $631,585.00 default judgment against Jason Vale, he was suddenly very, very broke. On top of that, AOL now had a legal claim against every asset owned by Christian Brothers Contracting Corporation, and thus, Jason Vale. When the FDA proceeded, first with its civil action and later, with its criminal case against Vale, the anticancer entrepreneur lacked the financial wherewithal to launch a meaningful defense.

Jason and the apricot seed
Jason David Vale was a walking sales pitch for the picture of good health. Tall, handsome, muscular--and successful. He had everything he needed, including the spiel, to become a motivational speaker. Instead, he became the US arm wrestling champion three times and an international champion once. What he did not look like was a man wasting away from very rare neuroectiderna tumors. He attributed his good health to amygdalin (vitamin B-17) extract.

Is there a cancer cure on the horizon?
When Jason David Vale was 18-years old, he contracted a very rare form of Ewing’s Sarcoma called Askin’s Tumor. Ewing’s Sarcoma, a fast growing small cell malignancy, is identified under a microscope by its blue color. Its cause is unknown but Ewing’s, a very deadly cancer, generally attacks the bones of children and teenagers. Occasionally Ewing’s Sarcoma deviates and, instead of attacking the bones in its victim’s arms and legs,
